New Volunteers
We are always looking for new volunteers to join our program.
Why Volunteer?
- Spend time outdoors
- Make new friends
- Develop equestrian skills
- Learn to work with people with disabilities
- Give back to your community
Who can volunteer?
Anyone! If you are under age 14, your parent must be present and actively volunteering with you. There is no upper age limit for volunteering. Don’t worry if you don’t have any horse knowledge or you’ve never worked with someone with a disability. Lutheranch is a great place to learn new skills and we will provide training.
What will I do as a volunteer?
It depends on your schedule, your interests and our current needs. There are many volunteer positions, from feeding horses and doing barn chores in the morning and evening, to leading horses or serving as a sidewalker, horse leader or arena assistant during lessons. We also need volunteers to help with administrative tasks in the office such as filing rider applications and volunteer paperwork, and site maintenance tasks such as fixing fences, dragging the arena or putting hay out in pastures.
When can I volunteer? What is the time commitment?
We ask lesson, administrative, and maintenance volunteers to commit to at least two hours/week, although many choose to stay for an entire morning or afternoon. Lessons are offered Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Barn chore/feeding volunteers are asked to volunteer at least one day/week from 8:00-10:00 am or from 6:00-8:00 pm. For the consistency of students and horses, and to build community, volunteers are asked to commit to three months at a time (spring, summer, winter or fall). Depending on your schedule, you may choose to sign up as a volunteer for all four quarters, or just for one or two.
Ready to get started?
For your safety, volunteer orientation is currently held online. Once online orientation is completed, the program director will schedule individual time for new volunteers to come to the barn for a tour and hands-on training. To sign up for online orientation, complete the form in the blue box above, or e-mail ranchvolunteers@novusway.org or call 404-583-4591.

Volunteer Work Days
If you can’t commit to volunteering regularly but you still want to help out, join us for one of our monthly volunteer work days. Work days are a great opportunity for families, youth groups, school groups or corporate teams to spend time together helping the equestrian program. Tasks may include cleaning the barn, painting, sweeping, cleaning tack, fixing fences, or caring for horses. Skilled and unskilled labor are welcome.
Work days happen on the third Monday and the third Saturday of every month from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Pre-registration is required so that we can limit the number of people onsite and plan for and maintain appropriate social distancing.
Please bring your own face masks, hand sanitizer and water bottle. If more than one group signs up to volunteer on the same day, each group will work on a separate project to limit interaction. If you are working indoors or in close contact with other volunteers or staff, you may be asked to wear a mask. Pre-packaged snacks will be provided. Please bring your own lunch.
To sign up, complete the form in the blue box above, e-mail ranchvolunteers@novusway.org or call 404-583-4591.
